As the new year kicks in, already some news on Battlefield 3 is starting to appear. Thanks to discussion on Reddit from DICE's Weapon Designer, Alan "Demize99" Kertz, it looks as though a few Battlefield 3 weapon tweaks are coming in the next patch. Although these changes aren't promised to be in a upcoming patch, Demize99 is looking for your feedback on the following changes.

The foregrip should help on vertical and horizontal recoil because it lets you have better control of the barrel in all directions. Also, it shouldn't reduce base accuracy because unless you are prone and it gets in the way or in a marksman stance, which the soldiers in Battlefield don't get in, it shouldn't hurt if not help base accuracy.

This is a redundant waste of time. DICE should be focusing on fixing actual problems with its product, not CoD-like gun tweaks. In my opinion, most of the primary and secondary weapons are perfectly satisfactory the way they are, including their attachments. Hair-splitter tweaks like these should be saved for when DICE has fixed the structure of the game itself.

What the game is ultimately lacking is the stability of a key component to its structure as a tactical shooter: VOIP (PS3). There are tons of other real issues that DICE can't just simply ignore, including preposterous spawns in TDM and SQDM matches, lingering input lag, various weapon, vehicle, and spawn exploits, and the lack of no-brainer features such as private servers and class configuration/exiting a lobby via the scoreboard following a match.

DICE has a near-perfect game on their hands (in terms of multiplayer), they just have to polish the black spots is all. Frankly, I fear they're going to wind up strictly kissing the asses of Christmas noobs and CoD kids with weapon tweaks through and through with no real game improvements until later, if ever at all. I don't intend to offend anybody nor do I mean to undermine Call of Duty and its relative fans (myself included), that's just the harsh truth.

I agree. Give the PS3 players f'ing VOIP. The weapons are fine, quit listening to the f'ing haters. This is disappointing.

Those are much deeper issues that I assume they are working on, and it doesn't take many people to change a few percentages around. Also, what weapon exploits are there? If you are talking about the Famas, it's because it shoots the same rounds as other guns a lot faster thus doing more damage per second.

Totally this, I mean - Why should it decrease the base accuracy? It's totally non-sense.

Im actually getting a little disappointed in the way they're handling the game. Granted I love their game and im one of their biggest fans, however with that being said Battlelog and the EA forums are just disgusting. Those who post well thought out and informative threads about changes that can be made get flamed or at best " TL : DR " whereas those who whine about weapons being overpowered or underpowered get their wishes granted. The most popular threads on those two social networks are "My Little Pony", "Ban This Person Game", "Rate This Person" or "This Is So OP'ed". Im getting a little tired of the bitching to put it as blunt as possible. Make some changes worth mentioning or dont mention them at all and make such a big deal out of it.

only issue with balance in weapons is are the Frag Rounds for the shotties.. other than this tweak on these weapons and they should really focus on all the other things that are keeping this game from being probably the best multiplayer package out there.. although I think it already is though haha..:)

also remember that apparently DICE has already mentioned that VOIP on ps3 at least cant be totally fixed due to the limitations of the ps3 apparently with its ram capacity. As it uses most of its ram to play a game and leaves little to no ram left to work with other applications. good god sometimes when implaying on a bf3 match and try to bring the ps menu up to check on messages it lags so much its annoying of some sort.. this is due to the slowness of the ps3 and its quite small ram capacity. rmember that bf3 already takes alot of memory and now try to add a nice VOIP that also takes memory its just quite impossible. For a reason sony wouldnt add cross game chat rite? because the ps3 apparently cant handle it :( this is a problem on sonys part and its console not DICE apparently:/

Appart from the small things, like VOIP, LAN-gaming and such.. there are two MAJOR issues that need working on, and they are these:
    1. Hit detection/Shots fired detection
    2. Rubber-banding deaths

When it comes to the hit detection, it's way beyond annoying to shoot a burst of shots in to someones head, and not getting a kill with that, only to have them kill you first.. then when you switch to single-shot, you can kill them with 2-3 shots, because the servers don't register the shots properly when in multi-shot modes.

..and I can't stress enough how unbelievably irritating it is when you obviously dodge someones shot, for example a sniper or something, and then 5 seconds after you've gone behind cover, you die from that/those shots, and/or get pulled back to die somewhere you were 10 seconds ago, because the game WANTS you to die there, because the communication between player > server > player makes for a rather incorrect hit registration, and timing.

No doubt that the attachment-fixes are nice to see, but I'd recommend fixing issues like these FIRST, beforehand anything as superficial as VOIP and other things of the likes.

Before these things are fixed or rather improved, the really skillful play, of some players wont get to shine, due to issues that are most likely related to latency, and if that is fixed, it's possible a lot of other issues get fixed at the same time, due to them actually being linked to the same thing.

Yeah I'd say the #1 issue is Hit Detection.

The "frag rounds" are actually VERY weak compared to the real ones, so be glad they're not realistic, that would be a nightmare.

Happy knowing some of the fixes coming in the next patch, especially with the foregrip & suppressor.
  13. MrCatador
I forgot about that. I agree about the frag rounds for semi-auto shotguns. I didn't think I would end up saying this word, but they are...

    overpowered.
  14. sztosz
I'm happy with the incoming changes, and i feel they are needed. But i would like the rubberbanding fixed first.
  15. EvilKit
I wish they would use the same amount of energy into releasing a spectator mode, the battlerecorder, and LAN capability. Those are imo the three issues that will make Battlefield 3 not a "legend", not a game still played in two or three years, not a game played across the world in tournament by thousands of players and watched by millions.

One day I hope that I will be able to say to my kids "I was a fucking beast at Battlefield 3 when I was about your age" and they would look at me like "OMFG" but without those three things, it won't happen. :/

I've been disappointed since BC2, and continue to be disappointed. I don't feel like they focus on big issues, but rather, just make tiny changes to give the appearance of continuing to patch the game.
I love the game, and loved BC2. But the reason these games come no where close to CoD, isn't just because CoD is easier. It's because CoD ships, working. They do gun patches because it's all they commonly need to fix. (This is gameplay aside, you can hate or love eithers gameplay, but they are how they are. It's not something that needs fixing, it's just something some will love some will hate and everything in between.)

I don't get the foregrip penalty at all. Why change the way weapons shoot AGAIN?

I'm also quite irritated, why they change some guns and modifications. Like @mainfold said, hitdetection is really shit. It may be also lag, but I often experience no hit detection in close quarter, although i sprayed a complete mag onto my target, which kills me with some shots while he still has 100% health. Thats frustrating as fuck.
