judging from the first reveal of the multiplayer, this game looks awesome. The cover system and suppression system are game changing and teamwork looks to be the key focus. I've never bought a Ghost Recon game before but I will probably be buying this one.
They are giving free access to the beta to anyone that has a copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction and anyone that preorders the game. I recommend that anyone interested about the game preorder it. You can always cancel the preorder. Then you can play before you pay for it completely. The beta should be out the first week of April from what I'm hearing.
From what I have gathered, the only thing Ghost Recon: Online has in common with any of the other Ghost Recon games. So to be clear, the play-for-free will be nothing like Future Soldier. That being said, I don't have any hands on experience with either game, this is simply the conclusion I have come to from reading the forums and watching the game play video.
I personally was looking forward to this game a great deal but now I think it just looks like a futuristic R6V2, I'm gonna give this one a miss.
It's going to be a lot more than what we've come to know as Rainbow Six. Will it be a Ghost Recon game, though? That remains to be seen. But personally, I enjoyed GRAW on 360 (hated the PC version); if this is basically GRAW with updated movement/shooting mechanics and animations, better AI, new tech, and hand-to-hand, then I'm a happy camper. Would I love to see a revolutionary title like I initially thought Future Soldier would be? Duh. But unfortunately that's not reality; expecting Ubisoft to take the step to take this from a "good" game to an outstanding one is not something I expected, and I don't think that's what they were aiming to do. A shooter with the tech and squad-play of Ghost Recon; the first person animations, immersion, and sound engine of Battlefield 3; the room-clearing, squad-oriented mechanics of Rainbow Six; the body and facial animations employed in Max Payne 3; and the fluidity, freedom of action, and hand to hand of Mirror's Edge? That still remains to be seen. I'm hoping for it, to be sure, but it's something way out on the horizon. It may be from a cutscene, but from my understanding it was rendered in game - so it is the game engine itself.
